Joanne Minadeo

January 12, 2018

Joanne G. Minadeo, (nee Maurer) born June 29, 1932 passed away peacefully on January 12, 2018 at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center in Akron, OH, after a brief battle with lymphoma. Joanne was the beloved mother of Michael Minadeo (Sherona), Lisa Minadeo-Fesz (Steve), Laura Lyons (Russ), and the late Gary Minadeo, all of whom she shared with Charles Minadeo. She was the dear grandmother of Garey and Eliot Fesz, and Sarah, Eric, and Melanie Lyons. She was the treasured sister of Larry Maurer and the late Eugene Maurer. She was a loving aunt to her only nephew, Christopher Maurer. Joanne was a dear dear friend to many.

Joanne’s parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins were originally from Dover, OH. She had cousins from Michigan and New York as well. Joanne grew up in Cleveland Heights, OH and graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in 1950. She made many lasting friendships during her childhood that continued into her adulthood. She attended the First Baptist Church on Fairmount Blvd., where she enjoyed singing in the church choir. She sang in her school choir as well. She would often sing to her children as they were growing up, as she always loved music. Joanne worked for the Illuminating Company for 17 years before getting married and having four children. While working at the Illuminating Company, Joanne made several lifelong friends whom she enjoyed traveling with during her “single” years. Her children and grandchildren have enjoyed listening to her stories of the many places that she traveled to when she was younger.

Once Joanne became a mother, her entire focus shifted to raising her four children. She enjoyed everything that she did with all of her children and they all kept her busy with their various activities. When her son Gary was born in 1976 with Down Syndrome and a congenital heart defect, she educated herself with regard to special education and did everything she could to give him the best possible life. He was truly special and she enjoyed every moment spent with him until he passed away in 1994. After his passing she became a caregiver to all five of her grandchildren at different times and thoroughly enjoyed every moment that she spent with them. Joanne raised her children in Euclid, OH and recently moved to Hinckley, OH to live near her daughter, Laura.

Joanne had a very special relationship with her younger brother Larry, who was born after her brother Eugene passed away. They spent time together over the years and most recently attended church together every Sunday. Joanne and Larry enjoyed visiting many different churches and getting to know many different pastors and parishioners. A few of their favorite churches that they had visited include, The Old Stone Church in Cleveland, OH and The Brunswick United Methodist Church in Brunswick, OH.

Joanne was an avid reader and library goer. She proudly displayed a “Home of a Library Reader” sign outside of her house. She has read countless, countless books and many of her friends would call her to ask what she was reading or seek advice on what would be a “good read” for them. Her passion for reading is something that she shared with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and planting flowers as well.

She will be dearly dearly  missed by all of her family and friends.
